Canada Learning Code and BrainStation hold Atlantic launch event for new tech skills bootcamp

For Immediate Release

ST. JOHN’S, NL – Canada Learning Code and BrainStation launched the career-changing upskilling program in Atlantic Canada. Today, local leaders and community members gathered at the Emera Innovation Centre to kick off Code to Career, a national training initiative that provides access to subsidized BrainStation software engineering bootcamps with a focus on supporting people from communities typically underrepresented in tech.

The gathering of local community builders, current and aspiring tech professionals, and elected representatives shone a spotlight on the dynamic intersection of tech growth and diversity in St. John’s thriving tech community, and across the Atlantic region. The event was an opportunity for attendees to learn about the program and how it can contribute to  the local tech ecosystem.

“We’re excited to be working together to build a connected, supportive, and inclusive local tech economy,” said Melissa Sariffodeen, CEO, Canada Learning Code. “Atlantic Canada has been punching above its weight in Canada’s tech scene for some time now and more people need to know about it. This program will give underrepresented groups in tech in this region a chance to level up their careers and help to build the local economy.”

“We have an opportunity to do something really impactful in Atlantic Canada with this program. We know there are deeply talented people here who will run with this opportunity” added Kyle Treleaven, Vice President and General Manager at BrainStation. “The reception we’ve received at today’s event demonstrates the strength and enthusiasm of the local tech scene, which will directly contribute to the success of our graduates, both now and in the future.”.

The event featured an address by Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology for Newfoundland and Labrador, and a panel discussion examining the program as well as the role, impact, and opportunity that tech growth has in the province.

About Code To Career

The program is powered by Canada Learning Code and BrainStation, and funded by Upskill Canada [powered by Palette Skills] and the Government of Canada. Code to Career aims to train 800 people in Canada through Software Engineering Bootcamps.
