Description

Deepen your skills in digital tools for trans advocacy in and outside of the workplace.

Join us for an event on the history and importance of Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) and its connection to digital tools for collective organizing.

With guest speaker and facilitator Blair Attard-Frost, we’ll dive into advancements in AI usage, AI ethics, and AI governance through a queer and trans lens. Participate in a hands-on activity based on Blair’s research where we’ll document the benefits and risks that AI poses to trans people and identify methods of resisting harmful AI systems. Together, we’ll ultimately ask: should we use AI for trans resistance, and if so, how?

Ahead of TDOR on November 20, we’ll share resources like vigils across Canada and support services for trans individuals, plus subsidized career development opportunities with Canada Learning Code to better understand AI and use that knowledge to your advantage.

About This Program

Who this is for

  • “I’m curious about tech and code in general”
  • “I am a complete beginner when it comes to tech”
  • “I have some tech and code skills but I’m looking to try my hand at something new!”
  • “I have financial barriers that make it hard to pay for classes and training”
  • “I’m not sure if I belong in tech— I wish I saw more people like me leading this industry!”
This event is open to all adults 18+, designed in a way that seeks to explicitly welcome people under the trans umbrella—this includes, trans women, trans men, non-binary people, and others who are gender nonconforming and marginalized because of their gender identity or expression. We believe that addressing the gender gap in tech is just one part of building digital equity. A more just and equitable future for technology in Canada means building programming that supports, empowers, and equips all learners who historically have been—and continue to be—underrepresented in tech, particularly Black, Indigenous and other Racialized learners, people in low-income communities and newcomer learners
