Module 2: Digital Tools to Brand and Market Your Business
This Module is designed to get learners comfortable using social media and branding tools with an entrepreneurial lens. They do not need to have a business idea to be able to understand how to use these tools like a business person would!

If you suddenly do not have access to internet.
Workshop 1:
- Slide 2: You will not be able to download the slides.
- Slides 8 – 14: You will be able to complete this by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion. However they won’t be able to open the branding guides on slide 14.
- Slides 15 – 20: You will be able to complete this by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slides 20 – 23: If you have set your Google Drive to be available offline, you can complete these steps by walking the learners through on your screen, and if not – simply walk them through the screenshots. They will not be able to complete a Google Slide deck offline.
- Slide 24 – 31: You can complete the activities. However, you won’t be able to show the Cheerios video on slide 29. Instead, summarize it. “The Cheerios video shows what appears to be a Grandpa/Guardian and a Grandson eating breakfast together. They aren’t saying much, but they do connect over the same cereal In the video and play with it. A narrator comments by saying ‘It makes little hearts happy, and big hearts happy too. Because as part of a heart healthy diet, those delicious oats and cheerios can help drastically lower cholesterol. Cheerios: how can something so little, help you do something so big’.”
- Slides 32 – 35: You will be able to complete this by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion. However, you will not be able to complete the coolors activity. Alternatively, have learners use markers and chart paper to create their own colour scheme. We know this is limited but it still practices the fundamentals of being mindful of your brand’s colour choice.
- Slides 36 – 50: You will not be able to complete these slides offline. For slide 41, you can have learners sketch out their logo ideas and use markers or pencil crayons if available.
- Stretch Goals: You will not be able to visit the Vistaprint website, but could prompt discussion and paper prototyping of swag materials for their business.
Workshop 2:
- Slide 2: You will not be able to download the slides.
- Slides 7 – 9: You will be able to complete this by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slide 10: You will not be able to able to complete the jeopardy game. However, you can brainstorm some questions about social media, and have learners try their best to answer in Jeopardy style.
- Slides 11 – 18: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slides 19 – 25: You will not be able to do offline.
- Slides 27 – 28: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slides 29 – 33: You will not be able to do offline.
- Slides 34 – 35: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slides 36 – 39: You will not be able to do offline.
- Slides 41 – 42: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slides 43 – 47: You will not be able to do offline.
- For the social media account creation: you can create more discussion around sharing experiences with the platforms instead of creating accounts. Example: “How have you used instagram?” “Have you heard about any of these social media platforms being in the news – was it positive or negative? “Let’s brainstorm how might you use these platforms”.
- Stretch goals: You can focus on creating a target audience and defining what that looks like in groups.
Workshop 3:
- Slide 2: You will not be able to download the slides.
- Slide 7 – 21: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slides 20 – 22: Please hand out Creating Contest Basics Document in EN and FR. This is linked in the special considerations section.
- Slides 22 – 31: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Stretch goals: You can do the hashtags and content ideas.
Workshop 4:
- Slide 2: You will not be able to download the slides.
- Slides 7 – 10: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slides 11 – 15. You will not be able to access Google My Business, but you can have learners write down the information that they would fill out when completing the steps.
- Slide 16: Instead of searching, have groups write a good review and a bad review. Give them businesses to consider. Potentially arrange a degree type of the review. Example: terrible, okay, really good, and excellent. Have groups share their reviews. The group that is not presenting their review, must come up with a potential response to the review.
- Slides 18 – 21: You will not be able to do offline.
- Slides 22 – 23: You can have learners sketch their ideas, and decide colours, fonts, and placement of text.
- Slides 24 – 26: You will not be able to do offline.
- Slides 27 – 29: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- Slides 30 – 31: You will not able to do offline. But you can have learners sketch their ideas, and decide colours, fonts, and placement of text for their business cards.
- Slide 32: You will be able to do offline by showing the slides, screenshots, and prompting discussion.
- No stretch goals for this workshop.
Special Considerations:
- You will need post it notes for this module.
- In order to create business profiles on LinkedIn and Facebook, you first have to create accounts. The learners can still follow along with screenshots and learn how this is useful, without creating accounts. They can login to their personal accounts if they like to understand how they would make a business page – but we recommend keeping personal and business social media accounts separate. (Workshop 1, Slide 55 and onward to next workshop).
